Smart Move: Buying Your New Boat in the Winter.
Buyers and sellers often ask: is winter a good time to buy a boat? To buy a boat? All the good boats come on the market in spring, right? Not true! Fall and winter are the best time to buy.
What better way to pass the wintertime than next to your cozy fire checking out boat possibilities for next spring and summer?
But is winter a good time to buy? It's cold, no one’s really selling or looking, right? Good boats come on the market in spring, right?
All not true! fall and winter are the BEST times to buy. Here’s why:
- *Around December, marinas are asking slip holders to reserve their space for next summer, and sellers would love to avoid that expense. That means you can look for winter price drops.
- *On the flip side, the seller may reserve that summer slip to entice prospective buyers who might want to negotiate a slip transfer. Marina space is at a premium, winter marina shopping is a ‘must.’
- *Winter boat buyers have TIME. Time to shop for a boat in a more leisurely manner. Time to arrange for those new sails, the new dodger, the new hot water heater or rigging improvements. Time to tinker and explore the new boat while she’s at rest. Time is the enemy of spring buyers, who often face crunch-time in getting a new boat ready for summer.
- *In the winter, there are more boats to choose from, and buyers can shop in a more leisurely manner. This means more negotiating strength, compared with a spring boat search that may bring higher prices for eager buyers.
- *Winter buying is especially important for first-time boat buyers, who often need more time to navigate the buying process and determine which boat is right for them. A good buyer broker can help immensely with this first-time buyer process.
So, these are top reasons for a winter boat shopping experience. Don’t hesitate to engage a buyer broker to bring a more efficient process to your big adventure.
